Founded by veterans of oil & gas, coming together with synbio experts, VIA Fuels makes decarbonized jet fuel. Their “shortcut” is jumping straight to an 8-carbon cycloalkane, rather than using multiple, expensive catalytic steps. Cycloalkanes are critical to jet fuel. VIA Fuels uses extra-long-run fermentation where – because of the unique characteristics of their target – the fuel aromatizes off the top, so no downstream processing is needed. VIA Fuels is partnering with supermajors, airlines, and ethanol players for rapid scaling.
